Sharing the news!

The knock at the door came almost exactly fifteen minutes after Alison had hung up the phone with John. He had said fifteen minutes, after all. It was little wonder which parent Robbie took after. The boy was almost -- almost -- never late.

Alison grinned as she swung the door open and smiled at her husband's adoptive father. To her eyes, John didn't really look old enough to be Robbie's father. Let alone Longshot who was a fully grown man. But, it worked for them and it made Longshot happy. Ultimately, that was what mattered the most to her.

"Hiya, John. Come on in." She stepped back to let him in. "Longshot's in the living room. Robbie and Miyuki are off doing something top secret for the clan. I don't even ask anymore." Actually, she did know. They were working on plans for Longshot's birthday and adoption celebration with the jonin. But, she wasn't going to say that while her husband was within hearing range.

"Everything okay?" He looked at her curiously as he shrugged out of his jacket and hung it on a hook by the front door. She eyed the gun holsters on his forearms. She could use guns, she just didn't like them. Too unpredictable for her.

"Yup. Just wanted to tell you something." His perplexed look made her giggle. "It's a secret. Go on in." She nudged him toward the living room and followed after.

John laughed and waved to the upside down blond. "Hey, kiddo. Sorry to interrupt your reading. How are things going?"

He flopped down on the couch to take a more conventional seat beside the Mojoworlder. It was interesting to him that most of the time, his perception of Longshot's more abnormal behaviors didn't even register them as unusual.

'Normal' was a sliding scale, anyway.

"Alison says you have some big news."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-21 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, they're going pretty good," he said conversationally before he carefully rolled off the couch and onto his toes. He sprang up, caught the magazine that had been on his chest, and then flopped down beside his adopted father.

"Big, good news," Longshot agreed with a nod. "Hope you like being a grandpa in less than a year."

Mojoworlders could not possibly take longer than nine months to premier. Or at least not that Longshot remembered.

[identity profile] light-in-sound.livejournal.com 2007-05-21 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"'Round about nine months, we figure." Alison said as she made her way over to the couch and sat down on Longshot's other side. She curled up to him and smiled over at John.

"We'll start calling you 'grampa' in about eight months or so. Just to get the practice," she teased.

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-21 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Longshot slipped an arm around Alison and tilted his head a bit. "Guess that would make Robbie an uncle and Lisa an aunt, too."

Though he was not figuring out how that worked with Alison being Robbie's pseudo-mom.

[identity profile] clericpreston.livejournal.com 2007-05-21 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
John broke into a wide grin and reached over to hug Longshot. "A baby?! That's great news! I'm thrilled for you two."

When he was done smushing the daddy-to-be, John reached over to hug Alison next.

"You can call me grampa all you want. You may confuse my other kids, though." He chuckled and shook his head. "Lisa is with her tutor, but as soon as her lessons are over I'll go get her so you can tell her the good news, too. A monkey, a puppy, horses, and a baby? She won't ever want to leave..."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-21 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Longshot's grin matched John's as he got smushed. He did eye the hug to Alison to make sure the important belly part was not smushed. Considering they were being careful and all.

"Well, we are a castle full of fun. Throw some ninjas on top and you get stealthy fun." He paused and realized that wasn't where he wanted to go with that. "Or something. Anyway, yay us! And woohoo to you for being a grandpa!"

[identity profile] light-in-sound.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Alison was happily unsmushed after being hugged. She was all smiles, too. "Thank you. I can't even describe how happy I am about it." She spoke the better part of three languages and she still didn't have enough words for 'happy'.

"You and Lisa are always welcome here, you know that."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Longshot nodded in agreement with his wife. "Yep. The more people in the castle, the happier it is. You should hear the floors cry after Rogue, Dakota, and the kids leave. Missing the patter of feet just about everywhere. Sadie and I can only make up so much."

[identity profile] clericpreston.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure you two do your best."

John smiled. He understood the sentiment, though. Having a lot of family around is a feeling he craved and enjoyed immensely, for all the rare occasions it had happened.

"I'd actually been thinking about bringing Lisa around for an extended visit sometime. If you were interested. Her summer vacation from lessons is coming up soon."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Longshot blinked. In surprise. Because it was unexpected. Then a slow grin spread across his face. "We'd like that a lot."

Somebody around his own age! Yay! Waitaminute...

He glanced at Alison to see if she didn't mind the guests.

[identity profile] light-in-sound.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
"That sounds like fun. It's always nice to have Lisa here. And Longshot needs someone like you around to do crazy things with him, since I'm supposed to be taking it easy now." She grinned, teasing.

The more family the better. That was why they had all been given rooms in the castle, after all.

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
"My princess and I can plot many, many things..." Longshot looked around shifty eyed. Then he realized he had just mentioned this in front of two responsible adults. Oops!

He shook himself a little and grinned. "Robbie will probably like the visit, too."

[identity profile] clericpreston.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
John rolled his eyes and heaved an exaggerated sigh. "If there is one thing my daughter needs no encouragement for, it's plotting devious things. I'm sure that she and Robbie will be delighted, though."

"I'll still be working on and off, but I'll be around for the most part."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, it wouldn't be a family get together with out my dear ole Dad." Longshot grinned and hugged John. Because he could. No one could stop him. Nyah nyah.

[identity profile] light-in-sound.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Alison smiled fondly as she watched her husband hug his Dad. Nothing was better than family. Soon, they would have quite a bit of family to go around. And a tiny baby on the way.

"We can do lots of family stuff. I'm sure we can think of ways to stay entertained over the summer."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
"And I should get the koi pond done so we can sit by that and have lemonade and cookies and chase Sadie out of the water..."

Well, and maybe stop Longshot from hugging the fish, but let's not mention that one. He would just be happy with having a large portion of his family around him while he kept an eye on his baby growing in Alison's belly.

[identity profile] clericpreston.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Koi pond?" John smiled and settled back against the couch. Sounded like an interesting project.

"Since it's living in a pond, I'm assuming a koi is a fish?"

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Yep! They're Japanese carp. They come in all sorts of colors like white, black, red, yellow, and blue. They can get to be pretty big." Longshot held up his hands to show how big he hoped to get their koi. "The pond's my gift to Alison for Mother's Day, since she was a Mommy by then."

The Mojoworlder put an arm around his wife and gave her a small squeeze. "Koi are good luck fish. I figured they might get along with me if that's true."

[identity profile] light-in-sound.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
"I didn't know they had blue ones. I'll bet those are nice." Alison hummed thoughtfully and snuggled up to her husband's side. The fish pond was sounding prettier and prettier.

"They'd better get along with you. Otherwise they have to find a new pond. I like my husband better than any fish."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. They're blue with yellow spots on 'em. Kind of remind me of someone's uniform on the X-Men." Longshot gave Alison a wink. He knew she preferred him over just about everything. Even at bad moments.

"So, Dad, how's work been treating you? Put any more bad guys away? Will it make you too tired to enjoy the koi pond when it's ready?"

[identity profile] clericpreston.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
John chuckled. "I don't think I'll be too tired. I don't work every day." That was one of the things he liked the most about it. The money was good, too.

"Bet I'll have enough energy to visit that Sake bar we found, too." He grinned.

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ooooooooh. Sake." Longshot smacked his lips slightly. He hadn't had good sake since Kyoto, and that wasn't a lot. "I think that sounds like a good idea!"

[identity profile] light-in-sound.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just be careful coming up the stairs when you're chasing the samurai armadillo, this time." Alison grinned and shook her head. Letting those two loose on Japan after a night as a sake bar was a recipe for disaster.

Or hilarity, depending on how close you were to the danger zone.

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aww! But I gotta protect you and the baby from his leetle sword." Now, more than ever. Especially since Alison was not supposed to exert herself at all with the way she had been pacing herself since visiting the doctor.

"You'll help me, right Dad?"

[identity profile] clericpreston.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"I would be happy to help with anything." He smiled and tried not to laugh. Alison's expression made it difficult, though.

"We'll just be sure not to fall down the stairs."
