Sharing the news!

The knock at the door came almost exactly fifteen minutes after Alison had hung up the phone with John. He had said fifteen minutes, after all. It was little wonder which parent Robbie took after. The boy was almost -- almost -- never late.

Alison grinned as she swung the door open and smiled at her husband's adoptive father. To her eyes, John didn't really look old enough to be Robbie's father. Let alone Longshot who was a fully grown man. But, it worked for them and it made Longshot happy. Ultimately, that was what mattered the most to her.

"Hiya, John. Come on in." She stepped back to let him in. "Longshot's in the living room. Robbie and Miyuki are off doing something top secret for the clan. I don't even ask anymore." Actually, she did know. They were working on plans for Longshot's birthday and adoption celebration with the jonin. But, she wasn't going to say that while her husband was within hearing range.

"Everything okay?" He looked at her curiously as he shrugged out of his jacket and hung it on a hook by the front door. She eyed the gun holsters on his forearms. She could use guns, she just didn't like them. Too unpredictable for her.

"Yup. Just wanted to tell you something." His perplexed look made her giggle. "It's a secret. Go on in." She nudged him toward the living room and followed after.

"And I should get the koi pond done so we can sit by that and have lemonade and cookies and chase Sadie out of the water..."

Well, and maybe stop Longshot from hugging the fish, but let's not mention that one. He would just be happy with having a large portion of his family around him while he kept an eye on his baby growing in Alison's belly.

"Koi pond?" John smiled and settled back against the couch. Sounded like an interesting project.

"Since it's living in a pond, I'm assuming a koi is a fish?"

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Yep! They're Japanese carp. They come in all sorts of colors like white, black, red, yellow, and blue. They can get to be pretty big." Longshot held up his hands to show how big he hoped to get their koi. "The pond's my gift to Alison for Mother's Day, since she was a Mommy by then."

The Mojoworlder put an arm around his wife and gave her a small squeeze. "Koi are good luck fish. I figured they might get along with me if that's true."

[identity profile] light-in-sound.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
"I didn't know they had blue ones. I'll bet those are nice." Alison hummed thoughtfully and snuggled up to her husband's side. The fish pond was sounding prettier and prettier.

"They'd better get along with you. Otherwise they have to find a new pond. I like my husband better than any fish."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. They're blue with yellow spots on 'em. Kind of remind me of someone's uniform on the X-Men." Longshot gave Alison a wink. He knew she preferred him over just about everything. Even at bad moments.

"So, Dad, how's work been treating you? Put any more bad guys away? Will it make you too tired to enjoy the koi pond when it's ready?"

[identity profile] clericpreston.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
John chuckled. "I don't think I'll be too tired. I don't work every day." That was one of the things he liked the most about it. The money was good, too.

"Bet I'll have enough energy to visit that Sake bar we found, too." He grinned.

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ooooooooh. Sake." Longshot smacked his lips slightly. He hadn't had good sake since Kyoto, and that wasn't a lot. "I think that sounds like a good idea!"

[identity profile] light-in-sound.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just be careful coming up the stairs when you're chasing the samurai armadillo, this time." Alison grinned and shook her head. Letting those two loose on Japan after a night as a sake bar was a recipe for disaster.

Or hilarity, depending on how close you were to the danger zone.

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aww! But I gotta protect you and the baby from his leetle sword." Now, more than ever. Especially since Alison was not supposed to exert herself at all with the way she had been pacing herself since visiting the doctor.

"You'll help me, right Dad?"

[identity profile] clericpreston.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"I would be happy to help with anything." He smiled and tried not to laugh. Alison's expression made it difficult, though.

"We'll just be sure not to fall down the stairs."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-23 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Longshot nodded in agreement. "I'll try to fall up the stairs. I think I can defeat gravity."

The Mojoworlder was oblivious to any facial expressions his wife was making. Sake was in the forefront of his thoughts anyway.

[identity profile] light-in-sound.livejournal.com 2007-05-23 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
"How about no falling at all?" Alison wrapped her arms around Longshot's waist and snuggled up close. It probably wouldn't hurt them to fall, but she could still worry.

"The noise would wake up the kids." She smiled and kissed her husband's cheek.

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-23 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Well... I guess I could try floating." He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I think with enough sake I could."

Longshot eyed Alison with a smirk. "I could drop a feather in the hallway and wake Miyuki. Robbie won't get up unless I crash real loud. Mostly just to check to make sure I didn't break anything. Might wake up with less though."

[identity profile] clericpreston.livejournal.com 2007-05-23 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
John was fairly certain that Longshot could float or do anything he wanted to do. With or without sake. He wasn't going to give the Mojoworlder ideas, though.

"We'll try to be quiet. Or just go in the daytime so no one is asleep when we get back."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-23 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Ooh. We could practice drunken ninjitsu instead. Sometimes learning can be fun!" And giggle-inducing. Though that could be the sake.

[identity profile] light-in-sound.livejournal.com 2007-05-23 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
"In the yard, right?" Alison teased. "Just don't fall into the koi pond. I'd have to send Sadie in to rescue you."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-23 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Sadie would end up licking us more than saving us. We would be too damp, and her tongue would only make us wetter." Not that Longshot minded. Though drunken anything slowed down when your pants sagged from water.

[identity profile] clericpreston.livejournal.com 2007-05-23 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
"How about I save you and Sadie can lick you? I'm not overly fond of being licked." Well, not by animals.

"Anything I can do to help with this pond building?"

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-23 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Longshot is ever so glad he can't hear his father's thoughts. He had a hard enough time with the memory flashes he picked up from Tasha and about her and Logan. "Well, if you're as drunk as I am, how can you save me? Your pants will be sagging off just as much."

He scratched his head. "Mm. Yeah. I want to do a lot of the digging and stuff, but maybe you could help with the bench swing and other chairs? And putting the stones in. That's gonna need more than me."

[identity profile] light-in-sound.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Careful that you two don't decide to build the fish pond while you're drunk. We might end up with crocodiles rather than koi. And that would be bad for Sadie to swim in."

She was mostly kidding, but with Longshot there was a very real possibility of crocodiles or anything else. So, it was good to be prepared.

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Longshot kissed Alison on the cheek before replying with a grin. "Phht. I'd probably try to put the shovel through my foot digging. I hear little samurai armadillos like chopped off toes. It would be the perfect bait."

[identity profile] clericpreston.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure we can find a less painful way to bait the little beast." John grinned and shook his head. Best to think of one before the drinking begins. Otherwise, spontaneous toe amputation might start sounding like a good idea to him, too.

"Find a pretty lady armadillo to distract him?"

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know if that works. The samurai armadillo has his eye on the most beautiful woman in the universe. He may never go back to painted armor ladies." Longshot winked at Alison.

[identity profile] light-in-sound.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Alison giggled and blushed a little, hiding her face against his shoulder. "I'm not sure I qualify for that particular award. But, I appreciate you vote of confidence."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
"You do in my eyes," Longshot mumbled before he craned his neck around to kiss her forehead.

He looked back at John. "Maybe we could find armadillo bait at a pet store?"
