The Twins: Year one.
"Happy birthday to youuuuuu..." Alison was singing to the twins as she got them bathed and dressed for their very first birthday party. She had been singing all day. All sorts of songs, with Happy Birthday randomly thrown in. Hana giggled every time Alison elongated the word 'you'. Aiden was too busy playing with the plushie frog face on his new shirt.
"Happy birthday to youuuuuuuuuuuu!" More giggles. Alison tugged a pink shirt with a fluffy, white lamb's face on it over the little girl's head. Each baby had matching pants and little socks to go with the shirts.
She scooped up one wiggle worm in each arm and headed down the stairs to the living room. "Happy birthday, Aiden and Hanaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Happy Birthday to you!"

Hana peered up at him with a baffled expression until he made 'crashing' noises and then she laughed again. Alison laughed, too, and turned the bike around to set the baby biker back onto a safer path.

Longshot duck-walked along with Aiden. Staying crouched right beside his son was tantamount. He gently kept his hand on Aiden's back to let him know Daddy was still there with him.

Soon, she was chasing her brother...

Eventually, he got more comfortable. Having his Daddy right there helped. Now, his forehead was scrunched as he tried to figure out how pulling the handlebars this way and that made his ride move differently. He was completely unaware of his sister behind him.

"I hope you've got insurance, lady!" Alison told her laughing daughter as she moved Hana and bike to a safer spot.

Longshot teetered forward and caught himself. He stuck his rear in the air enough to peer through his legs. "I'm watching you, baby girl..."

Alison trailed behind her little speed demon with her hands poised for grabbing if Hana teetered. Otherwise, she didn't interfere with the reckless driving.

"Help!"

Instead, she thunks to a stop at Dakota's leg. Oops!

He waited a long minute before he slowly said: "Ow."
no subject
"Ow?" She gave him an inquisitive look and stuck the fingers of one hand into her mouth.

He nodded at Hana. "Yep. Ow."

Except that her little girl was looking at her uncle with sad eyes. She didn't mean to hurt! Her little lip wobbled.

She bends over to pluck Hana from the bike and cuddle her. "It's okay, sweetpea. Uncle Dakota is just being a mean ole poopyhead. He'll be okay."
He gets an elbow in his ribs to make him chime in.

"It's okay, little flower," Dakota assured as he rubbed the backs of his fingers gently down one chubby cheek. "I'll heal. Don't even feel it now. It's okay."

Aiden peered over from his four-wheeler to see what was wrong with his sister.

"Nnnnnnroooooooom. Flyboy Aiden requesting his first birthday cake." Aiden swooped, dove, and nearly touched the ceiling beams.

She carried Hana into the kitchen where two high chairs were set up beside the regular table. Hana was seated in one chair and watched in fascination as a cake for the grownups was set out and sliced. Once both kids were seated, Alison brought out the baby smash cakes. One little cake for each birthday baby.
"We better sing quick," Alison advised the guests. "These won't last long."
no subject
"Okay! Double time!" Longshot raised his hands to direct the choir like he had seen on TV.
"HappyBirthdayToYouHappyBirthdayToYouHappyBirthdayDearAidenAnd HanaaaaaaaaaaaHappyBirthdayToYoooooooooooooooooooou!"

When the singing was done, he put Lisa down so she could run for a piece of cake.

Dakota thought his deeper voice added a nice touch to the chipmunk chorus.

Alison laughed and shook her head as cake and frosting went everywhere. Oh, grandma and auntie Asuka would have a fun time with baths tonight.

John waited, leaning up against the door frame as the others went for cake. He didn't mind being last. Stampedes scared him.
