Follow the sound of my heartbeat.
Before Longshot, Robbie and Miyuki had left for camp, Alison had politely, but firmly asked Robbie and Miyuki to find fun diversions in camp. Lengthy ones. She wanted her husband all to herself at least until sunset.
It took about an hour to organize, but when Alison finally retired upstairs, the lights were out and the shades drawn on all the floors. The only illumination came from tiny, floating candles in shallow water dishes placed on every other step on the stairs. One the landing of each floor, she had placed an item for him to find.
On the first floor, at the bottom of the stairs, a CD copy of his favorite French singer's newest album was tied with a gold ribbon. A tag attached to the ribbon read, Follow the lights.
On the second floor, a package wrapped in shiny red paper and silk ribbon. The tag read, Don't open this yet.
On the third floor landing, a second package was wrapped in white, shiny paper and ribbon. The tag read, Not yet. Keep moving.
On the fourth, two long-stemmed wine glasses waited for him.
The candles continued up the stairs to their bedroom. Inside, dozens of red candles of every size were lit in containers all over the bedroom. Spread out in front of the balcony doors was a soft fleece blanket. Several covered dishes were set out on it and two bottles chilled in a bucket of ice.
The tiny, floating candles created a path from the door to the bathroom where rose scented steam rolled out from under the door. Inside, Alison was sitting on the edge of the filled bathtub in a red silk robe. She drew small circles on the tile at her feet with her toe and waited for her husband to arrive. Hopefully, it would be before the food or the water got cold.

Certain body parts weren't poking out of the water yet. Though they would be soon if she kept scrubbing him like she was. Then he would have a problem holding out for her other surprises. Because they would both be on the floor and not wanting anything but each other.

"Taste good, too." She winked. "Come on. Let's get you dry."
She slipped reluctantly away from him and stood to get him some towels.

He wasn't about to try now as he carefully got out of the tub. If he hadn't been a Mojoworlder, he might have had a momentary shiver at emerging totally from the warm bath. As it was, he tried not to rock on his heels while waiting for Ali. He didn't want to almost fall again. She hadn't been too happy the last time he did. So, no throwing a monkey wrench into her very enjoyable plans.

"C'mon out. We've got lots more to do tonight."

He made sure he was in good position for Alison to rub down lots of his body. Which included Longshot spending time drying his mostly dry hair. You could never be too sure where there water went, ya know?
Once they were down toweling, he was going to follow Alison anywhere she wanted.

Time for that later. Their food was getting cold and she wanted to see him open his gifts.
no subject
"Ready for more of your surprises!"
no subject
She guided him over to the blanket and dropped his hand, sitting down cross legged and reaching her arms up to him.
"C'mere."

She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him to her for a moment before she reached out a hand to start uncovering dishes. None of the foods she'd made were Japanese; she hadn't been working on the recipes long enough to try them reliably. She stuck with Italian dishes this time.
Next year, she might be good enough in the kitchen to produce some of the local stuff.
In the meantime, they'd have to make do with the steak recipe Maria had taught her, some steamed vegetables, and a light pasta salad. All simple enough that she felt confident making them without Maria standing over her with a rolling pin.
For fun, she'd cut the steaks into bite sized pieces and neglected to include forks. She snagged a piece with her fingers and offered it to him with a slightly nervous smile.

Longshot snuggled up to his wife as she held him for a moment. He gave her a quick kiss on her temple as she started to uncover their food.
He eyed all of it with a mostly empty belly. It looked deeeeelicious! He sniffed and her his tummy rumble at the good scent.
He gave her a reassuring grin before leaning a little forward to take the offered food with his mouth. he didn't know if his tongue was supposed to tease the food out from her fingers, but he did it anyway. Then he chewed slowly. Contemplating how it tasted.

It couldn't be that bad, could it?

He kissed her softly. "And that's you..."
no subject
"I'm glad you like it. I wanted it to be special for you."
She pulled the container closer and offered him another piece from the dish.

And apparently, she still liked to use her tongue on his fingers. Not that he minded in the least.

Fortunately, with him sprawled out naked in her lap, she had a good eye-view of just how interested he was getting.
She happily took any food offered to her and continued to feed him right back. The meal wasn't large because she wanted to make sure he had room for dessert.
"What do you think, so far?" She smiled at him over his shoulder.

And when she was ready, he would be very energetic. Because all of this was for him. And it made both of his hearts sing. Maybe in harmony to Alison's own voice.
He kissed her cheek. "I know we're not done, but thank you for all this. It makes my eyes want to leak happily."
no subject
She kissed the very corner of his eye closest to her. "They can leak if they want to, but it'll be hard for you to see what's inside your gifts if they do."
She winked at him.

Then he fingered her robe a little. "Do you count as a gift, too?"
no subject
The fingers on her robe made her grin. "Everything tied with a bow is a gift for you." She fiddled with the silk rope belt tied in a bow at her waist. "But, you have to open them in the order I tell you, okay? And this one's last."
She grinned and pushed his hands away from her robe. Then she picked up the largest package from off to the side where she'd stashed it and handed it to him first. This gift was the tricky one. Miyuki had told her that a gift of clothing was traditional. She had wracked her mind for a full day before she'd come up with something.
Inside, under the bright red wrapping, was a white box containing a new leather jacket. Instead of a solid piece of leather like his old one had bee, this one was in black leather patches stitched together. It was heavier than his old one, more sturdy. A patch of gold colored leather cut into the shape of an eight pointed star was stitched onto the left side of the chest.
She just hoped that the reason for him needing a new one didn't ruin the moment.

He grinned and wiggled a little to get into his new jacket without elbowing Alison at all. It was heavier but still comfy. Longshot twisted a little and cupped Alison's chin between both of his hands. He could have said 'thank you.' He decided kissing it was better.

She kissed him long and slow, and would have happily spent the rest of the night doing so, but there were more gifts to open. She drew back slowly and wrapped her arms around him, pressing both hands over the star on his jacket.
"I know your old one had your star on the right side, but I had them put this one on the left. I want your lucky star protecting your hearts when I'm not there to." She hugged him tightly and then reached for the other package.
Inside the white package were the two chocolate hearts she and Miyuki has made after their shopping trip. They were both a little larger than her open palm and higher at the edges than in the middle so that she could fill the middles with cannoli cream.
