Sharing the news!

The knock at the door came almost exactly fifteen minutes after Alison had hung up the phone with John. He had said fifteen minutes, after all. It was little wonder which parent Robbie took after. The boy was almost -- almost -- never late.

Alison grinned as she swung the door open and smiled at her husband's adoptive father. To her eyes, John didn't really look old enough to be Robbie's father. Let alone Longshot who was a fully grown man. But, it worked for them and it made Longshot happy. Ultimately, that was what mattered the most to her.

"Hiya, John. Come on in." She stepped back to let him in. "Longshot's in the living room. Robbie and Miyuki are off doing something top secret for the clan. I don't even ask anymore." Actually, she did know. They were working on plans for Longshot's birthday and adoption celebration with the jonin. But, she wasn't going to say that while her husband was within hearing range.

"Everything okay?" He looked at her curiously as he shrugged out of his jacket and hung it on a hook by the front door. She eyed the gun holsters on his forearms. She could use guns, she just didn't like them. Too unpredictable for her.

"Yup. Just wanted to tell you something." His perplexed look made her giggle. "It's a secret. Go on in." She nudged him toward the living room and followed after.

"Whatever a chinchilla is, please don't mention it around Lisa. She will want one. Even if it has razor sharp teeth and claws." That was only a slight exaggeration.

"It's a little fuzzy thing. Sometimes they're fed nothing but coffee beans, and then when they poop it out, it's ground up into coffee." Thus another reason Longshot will never drink that vile liquid.

Also, the internet was great for learning things.

Alison grimaced and shook her head. Sometimes, she was amazed by the information her husband came up with.

"I'm so glad I prefer tea."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't think tea would work as well. It wouldn't come out as little beans anyway." Longshot nodded with a momentary look of all knowing. Or at least knowing enough of the all of his world.

John's expression wavered between baffled and horrified. There was a coffee fact he'd never heard before. It might be time to rethink his morning dose of caffeine. The delivery system, anyway.

"That's... revolting."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Coffee is revolting all by itself. I'm definitely not gonna touch any now. Chinchilla pooped or not."

"Now I see why you hate it so much." Alison chuckled.

"You look a little green, John. Want some genuine Japanese tea to take home to replace the coffee?" She smiled sympathetically.

"Oh, I disliked it by taste alone before I ever learned that." It was icky and patooie for sure.

"Tea's good," Longshot recommended. "And it comes in other flavors than yecch."

He was really going to miss his coffee. Oh, the withdrawals would be epic.

"I might take you up on that. It looks like I'm going to have to end my relationship with Starbucks."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Poor little space-traveling deer," Longshot commented. He had no idea what Starbucks was, but if he found out, he would like his version better. At least space-traveling deer did not spam inboxes with brothel advertisements for medication.

"I'm sure they'll be fine." Alison giggled and kissed the back of Longshot's neck. She loved the way her husband's mind worked.

"Don't let me forget to find some good tea for John before he goes home."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
"You sure? Hope they don't get too close to a star now that Dad broke up with them. Crispy space-traveling deer aren't much fun." He thought his mind worked just fine. Everybody over the age of ten were the ones with funny thoughts.

"Okay. Is there any flavors you like, Dad? Tea comes flavored with lots of stuff."

[identity profile] clericpreston.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
John had no idea what Longshot was talking about. He'd be willing to bet his next year's pay that Alison didn't either. But, that wasn't going to stop either of them from agreeing with him. Ah. Family.

"They'll be fine. They have good maps."

He hummed thoughtfully. "Um. Orange? And, Vanilla. Maybe not together."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
"If you're sure..." He trailed off and shrugged. Longshot wouldn't want his Dad breaking up with him, no sirree. No map would save him from that pained wandering.

"I think orange should be easy enough to find. Maybe some vanilla. We got all sorts of teas to keep our little teapot happy."

[identity profile] light-in-sound.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
"It's hard for me to tell what the flavors are, sometimes. The little teapot is going through a mint phase. Everything tastes like spearmint to me." She smiled and shrugged. "Hopefully, you will get better results with an ordinary teapot."

[identity profile] sonofarize.livejournal.com 2007-05-24 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I can read the subtitles on the packages," Longshot offered helpfully. "And I can invite Dad over when the teapot goes through a vanilla phase."
