[Nexus 100] 029. Birth

Deep breaths, Alison. Stay cool.
Her nineteenth birthday was just behind her when she found herself in the wings of a tiny little New York club's stage. It was her first, real performance! Any minute now, the emcee would take the stage and announce her debut.
Her heart was hammering in her chest as she needlessly smoothed down the shimmering jumpsuit she wore. A few of the other 'first timers' had laughed at the face paint and roller-skates she wore. Alison paid them no mind. She was going to be a star. She could feel it. All she needed was her one chance to make it real.
The DJ's final song came to a close amidst cheers from the audience. The lights went down in the club and the only illumination came from the foot lights as the emcee strutted across the stage and took the microphone.
Any. Minute. Now.
Rapid fire heartbeats almost drowned out the sound of her name booming across the club. There was no way she could miss the cheers and applause -- the first she would ever hear, and the most treasured -- as the foot lights went down and she stepped into the single spotlight and burst into song.
The Dazzler was born.
