Happy Birthday!

The preparations had begun days before. Alison had sent letter after letter and made dozens of phone calls. Half of the calls had gone to her stubborn step-son. Shatterstar was hard to corral. The other half had gone out to other family and friends. Anyone Alison could think to invite, she had contacted. Her invitations were only part of the deal. She had enlisted her mother-in-law to invite the women from the clan. Whoever Longshot was close to. And given her husband's ability to make friends wherever he went, that list would be long.

After the guests were settled, she focused on food. The cake had been a big deal to her... it had to feed dozens of people, and it had to be appealing to her husband. It had taken ages to find a baker who could produce what she wanted. In the end, it had been worth it and she couldn't wait to show it off. For lunch, she had enlisted the help of Longshot's two favorite cooks: Momoko and Maria. The day of the party, the kitchen and dining room were piled high with the best food Italy and Japan had to offer.

The living room was the designated present area. A table had been set up along a mostly unused wall and had begun filling up with brightly wrapped packages of all sizes early that morning. Lisa and Gloria Jean had been assigned inside decoration duty and had roped Rogue into helping. She could fly and get to the high places, they reasoned. Dakota and the boys had pulled outside duty. There were balloons and streamers all over the place. The more the better, as far as Alison was concerned.

John had been stuck with the hardest job of the morning. He had been assigned the task of getting up dreadfully early and taking Longshot out of the castle long enough for them to prepare the party. Since he had been spending so much time at work catching up after his vacation, he used the excuse that he wanted to spend time with his son on his birthday before he had to go to work. And the best early rising activity he could think of was fishing. At a lake. Far away from the castle. He might be tired by the time they returned, but he knew Longshot would perk right back up when he saw the party dedicated to him.

It was early in the day, still, when the party was all set up and they just had to wait for the guest of honor. Alison had showered and changed. The babies were fed, clean, and dressed in new little outfits their Mommy had picked out especially for the occasion. They had picked up on the excitement around them and were giggling and babbling happily to anyone who would listen. Lisa and Glora Jean each had a baby in their lap and were laughing and making faces right back.

Alison shifted impatiently in her seat and tried to will her husband to appear.

Longshot did not understand why his Dad wanted to go fishing. It was not like the Mojoworlder was entirely familiar with it. Though he would give it a shot to spend time with John. When he caught fish, he didn't want to particularly to keep them. He already had a pond full of fish. Also, he was not hungry for fish. So he released what he caught.

Now, he was coming home and his pace was slowing because the front yard looked a little funny...

Tasha was late. It seemed to be a running theme since Mikhail had been born. She had the job of keeping Graydon moving when it came time to get ready to go somewhere and the job of getting all of the necessary items for Mikhail ready. Graydon was like all kids. There were times when they just didn't want to move. But then Tasha pointed out that Lisa and Robbie were going to be there and the longer Graydon took to get ready, the less time he'd have to spend with that. That got him moving a little quicker.

Mikhail was a different problem all together.

Tasha fondly remembered the days where when she wanted to visit someone she just walked out the door.

In the end they made it. Which was all that mattered.

Natasha knocked on the front door.

Tasha may have been late, but she was not the latest arrival. That fell to Longshot's oldest progeny. Shatterstar stood in front of the front door to the castle. He looked at the small package in his hand and contemplated returning home. This was a loud, festive event and not his element.

Except Alison had been most adamant in tracking him down to attend. So, he straightened himself up like he was about to step into the arena and knocked.

After checking on three of Dakota's children (the fourth was easier to check on since she has a very good idea of where that child is at), Rogue settles in beside her husband. He has graciously held onto her heaping plate. Also, he is needed to make sure no one takes her seat. There were lots of ninjas about. Festive ninjas. Rogue doesn't know how that works.

She glances over at the family gathering on the couch. She nudges her husband with an elbow. "Think we'll get more happy moments like that one?"

There were sneaky non-ninja things afoot. Specifically in the forms of two little girls peering around the corner from the hallway into the living room and wondering how adults always managed to take something as fun as a party and make it boring?

Humph. Well, it was up to them to save it, obviously.

Lisa nodded to Gloria Jean and they set their plan into motion. Basically, the plan was to walk over to the present table, grab the present each of them had gotten for Longshot, and take it to him. Simple plans were often the best kind, really.

"Happy Birthday, Longshot!" Lisa announced as she held out her gift to him. Her Dad had said that Christmas was a time for special, sentimental gifts, but birthdays were for fun stuff. So, she got Longshot a remote controlled boat shaped like a pirate ship that he could use on the koi pond. She hoped he liked it.

They partied hardy for a long time. Eventually, people got shooed out of the castle. Rogue disappeared before the party was totally over. Dakota hung around helping taking care of the babies so their parents could enjoy themselves. Longshot also had a hunch it was so Rogue would not be 'indisposed' when he went to get his birthday gift from her.

Rogue's gift to him was a pair of leather chaps. He oohed and rubbed them. She might have commented about how his wife would really like him in them and nothing else. The Mojoworlder thanked her and headed for the bedroom. Maybe he could change into them once he got up there...

"Only if you want to. My only real angle, here, is to get more bouncing going." She grinned. First she wanted to see him bounce alone. Then she would get in on the bouncing.

She inched her panties down her hips and legs as she watched him. No missing the view!
