Small surprises.
Alison didn't like it when her husband wasn't home. There were a variety of reasons for it, but the main reason was because he wasn't with her when he was gone. She had spent most of the day in a funk, waiting for Longshot and Asuka to return home from a clan mission. She couldn't complain too much when he was sent away. The jonin knew Alison was pregnant and somewhat clingy where her husband was concerned. So, if he had been called away, it was probably very important.
She still missed him, though.
So, she spent most of the day in her music room. Her single had done remarkably well since its release and now she was looking to find more good material to record. She had almost an album's worth already.
She was taking a break from working, having a sandwich for lunch in the kitchen, when she saw the glowy orange light from John's arrival. She hoped Lisa was with him. The girl had not been in her room this morning and that had worried Alison, too.
"Hi, guys!" She called. "Come have some lunch with me."

She pulled it out and reached up to put it onto the counter. Before she closed the fridge again, she poked around to be sure they still had cannoli. Yep. Hidden in the back in a bowl cleverly marked "brussel sprouts".
no subject
He held it up for her inspection. "Does this go with pasta?"
Though it was a good thing he couldn't read, because anything marked brussel sprouts would still get pilfered later.

She slipped the pasta into the microwave and set it for a couple of minutes. Then she took a seat at the table and settled him lightly in her lap.
Why put him down when he was so much fun to hold and cuddle?
no subject
He did not mind being held and cuddled. Ali was always so nice about doing it. That's why they were married, right? For all the nice snuggles and stuff.
He absently toyed with the wedding band on his necklace.

Once all the peel was off, she made sure to pick off as much of the bitter, white pith. Then she pulled the orange into three sections and handed him one.
"There you go, sweetheart." The microwave dinged just as she was finishing peeling the orange, so she stood up and sat him down in her seat. "I'll be right back. I'm going to get our pasta."
no subject
He waited until he swallowed before speaking again. "I only want a little pasta. I'm saving room for cannoli."
no subject
Well, he might. She didn't want any. The pasta sounded tastier to her.
She brought the bowl and two forks over and set them on the table. Then she scooped the little blond up and settled him in her lap again. She handed him a fork as she snagged a piece of orange to eat before she dug into the pasta, herself.

He looked up at Ali and smiled for no apparent reason.
no subject
When he smiled at her, she melted. Awwwwww.
"Hi there, cutie." She smiled back at him and kissed his forehead.
no subject
"You're pretty," he whispered in a conspiratorial fashion. "That why you married me?"
no subject
"Well... actually. I married you because I love you with every little bit of my heart and because I just don't ever want to spend a day of my life without you." She winked at him. "You're my sweetie. My very best friend, ever."
no subject
"Aww, mush!" Though he did look a little confused. "You only got one heart? I got two."
He poked himself in two separate places on his chest.
no subject
"Our babies have two hearts, though. They get that from their Daddy." She kissed the top of his head and helped him twirl a little bit of pasta onto his fork.
no subject
"Whatcha wanna do after lunch?" He twirled the pasta out of the bowl and splattered himself across the chest with sauce. "Ooopsie."
no subject
She chuckled at the pasta spill and grabbed a napkin off the table to clean him off. As she did, she slipped a hand under the table real sneaky like and lightly tickled his foot. Then she snatched her hand back quickly, looking as if nothing had happened.

He rubbed his knee lightly and then was over the pain. "Lisa bring anything good?"
no subject
She squeezed him gently for a moment and then sat back. "She brought some more Disney cartoons. The ones with all the singing. One has Mickey Mouse and all kinds of magic in it."
no subject
He sat back against her. Hey! The squishy pillows came, too! "That sounds good. I wanna watch that."
no subject
She grabbed the 'brussel sprouts' out of the fridge and took a small plate from the cabinet. He'd already had part of an orange and some pasta, so one cannoli should be plenty. She didn't want to give him a tummy ache.
Cannoli plate in hand, she returned to her seat and plopped him down in her lap once more. "There you go, sweetheart."
no subject
"Thank you very much," he enunciated clearly before nodding his head.
no subject
She smiled and stroked his hair back softly as she watched him eat. Oh, he was going to need a bath tonight. Between the cookies, the orange, pasta sauce, and the cannoli it was a wonder he didn't stick to every surface he encountered.
no subject
"Cartoon time!"
no subject
"Yep. Cartoon time. But, first..." She swept him up and carried him to the sink. Another wet washcloth was applied liberally to all his cannoli creamed surfaces.

In the living room, she put him down carefully on the couch and kissed his forehead. "Get comfy. I'll find our cartoon."
She smiled and wandered over to the stack of movies left laying around the television. She'd have to remember to clean these up before a certain puppy she knew decided to have a snack.
