Small surprises.
Alison didn't like it when her husband wasn't home. There were a variety of reasons for it, but the main reason was because he wasn't with her when he was gone. She had spent most of the day in a funk, waiting for Longshot and Asuka to return home from a clan mission. She couldn't complain too much when he was sent away. The jonin knew Alison was pregnant and somewhat clingy where her husband was concerned. So, if he had been called away, it was probably very important.
She still missed him, though.
So, she spent most of the day in her music room. Her single had done remarkably well since its release and now she was looking to find more good material to record. She had almost an album's worth already.
She was taking a break from working, having a sandwich for lunch in the kitchen, when she saw the glowy orange light from John's arrival. She hoped Lisa was with him. The girl had not been in her room this morning and that had worried Alison, too.
"Hi, guys!" She called. "Come have some lunch with me."

He peered around Ali at the toilet. That shoulda been shorter. Though he could still make it in the bowl, he thought.
He looked up at Ali. "Big bafroom."
no subject
Well, a little trial and error was in order, she supposed. She bent down and grabbed him around the waist. She picked up up and held him close to the toilet.
"Okay?"
no subject
"Got me good?" Being dropped in mid-pee did not appeal to him. He would also make a mess, which would get him into trouble and make him cry.
His hand went to the zipper as he waited for her answer.
no subject
"Go ahead."
no subject
Once he was done, he did a little shake he had learned some somewhere. "All done!"
And he had only slopped a little toward the end.
no subject
She turned and took him to the sink. She turned on the water and handed him the soap. "Wash up and we'll go downstairs and have a snack. What do you think? I'm hungry."
no subject
"Done!"
no subject
When they were both clean, she reached for his hand. "C'mon, cutie. Let's go eat."
no subject
He took her hand. "Okay, gorgemous!"
no subject
She grinned at his compliment and squeezed his hand gently. She made sure to keep a good grip on him so that he couldn't go hurtling down the stairs as they descended.
"There might even be some cannoli hidden away, if you'd rather have that than a cookie."
no subject
He swung her hand a bit as they went down the stairs.
"Cannoli?" He then promptly tried to pull Alison down the stairs faster...
no subject
Once she had a secure hold on him, she bounced him gently as she made her way down the stairs. The siren call of cannoli was strong.
"I promise it will still be there when we get to the kitchen."
no subject
He leaned back and gave her his most serious look. "Promise?"
Even at four, cannoli was important.
no subject
"I promise. Really and truly." Then she smiled and kissed his forehead. He was too cute to stay serious at for very long. "And, if by some weird crazy miracle there isn't any left we'll just have to go visit Maria and get some. Okay?"
She bounced him again as they walked down the last flight of stairs and headed for the kitchen.
no subject
He stayed that way with his face buried against her neck until they were in the kitchen.
no subject
She swayed from side to side and swung him a little as they walked into the kitchen. Then she shifted him to one arm so she could open the fridge and find the pasta.
no subject
"Hmm."
no subject
She pulled it out and reached up to put it onto the counter. Before she closed the fridge again, she poked around to be sure they still had cannoli. Yep. Hidden in the back in a bowl cleverly marked "brussel sprouts".
no subject
He held it up for her inspection. "Does this go with pasta?"
Though it was a good thing he couldn't read, because anything marked brussel sprouts would still get pilfered later.
no subject
She slipped the pasta into the microwave and set it for a couple of minutes. Then she took a seat at the table and settled him lightly in her lap.
Why put him down when he was so much fun to hold and cuddle?
no subject
He did not mind being held and cuddled. Ali was always so nice about doing it. That's why they were married, right? For all the nice snuggles and stuff.
He absently toyed with the wedding band on his necklace.

Once all the peel was off, she made sure to pick off as much of the bitter, white pith. Then she pulled the orange into three sections and handed him one.
"There you go, sweetheart." The microwave dinged just as she was finishing peeling the orange, so she stood up and sat him down in her seat. "I'll be right back. I'm going to get our pasta."
no subject
He waited until he swallowed before speaking again. "I only want a little pasta. I'm saving room for cannoli."
no subject
Well, he might. She didn't want any. The pasta sounded tastier to her.
She brought the bowl and two forks over and set them on the table. Then she scooped the little blond up and settled him in her lap again. She handed him a fork as she snagged a piece of orange to eat before she dug into the pasta, herself.

He looked up at Ali and smiled for no apparent reason.
